“We are singing a song by candlelight; our hearts are filled with mirth. We are carolling now this windy night, to tell you of Christ’s birth. Noel, sing Noel, Jesus Christ is born today. Hey! Sing Noel, Christ the Saviour is born today!”

Yes, it is that time again! Feast of Lights! The theme this year is Total Praise for the Christ Child. The event takes place once again at the Gymnatorium building on the Mandeville Campus at Northern Caribbean University on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. Jamaica Time.

With a line-up of about 200 performers, this year’s event will have the renowned international and local groups – the Harverford Choral Singers and the Jamaica Choral Scholars. Outstanding NCU voice alumni, Sashieka Brown and Danielle Brown, will be performing in person. In addition to overseas performers, the NCU Chorale and the NCU Instrumental Ensemble will perform. Not to be out-done are child performances like those of the adorable Cherubs from West Indies College Preparatory School.

Proceeds this year will go towards the purchase of orchestra and other music equipment, and towards scholarships for students wanting to pursue Music, disclosed Professor Marilyn Anderson, head of the department.

Physical tickets are available in Mandeville at Fontana Pharmacy, Three Angels Pharmacy and NCU Bookstore in Mandeville. Costs are $3,000.00 for adults and $1,000.00 for children and students with ID. For persons overseas and those attending virtually, virtual tickets are available at the website feastoflights.org and the cost is US$25.00. Virtual patrons will get a code upon purchasing their tickets and will be able to log in on the day of the event and see the same live.

This Feast of Lights production will be staged by the NCU Department of Music and Fine Arts in collaboration with The NCU Alumni Federation, South and Central Florida Chapters. The proceeds of the Feast of Lights productions for the period 2020-2022 resulted in the refurbishment of the Music and Fine Arts department building, which was re-dedicated on November 11, 2023, during NCU’s Alumni Homecoming.

The Feast of Lights concert tradition started in 1969 and it is an anticipated event nationally and internationally. The finest in classical voices and instruments will be on full display during this concert, which annually ushers in the global holiday season in December.
